  • 24. November 2007

    • Trio KraanKraan is now a trio.
Peter Wolbrandt has long wanted to explore a more free and less chord-bound style without keyboards. So right now Kraan will perform as a trio with just the original 3 homies from Ulm.

    • New live dates (both Kraan & Hattler)

    • The Strawbery Bricks Guide To Progressive Rock now available, the official book from progressiverock.com.
      Kraan must be in it.

    • Old news, but I have never mentioned the videos at Kraan.de: Konzert in Tüttlingen 1988, Filme aus Wintrup.

    • Hellmut Hattler has also played on 'Lu Lafayette's Wolfsmond: Auf heisser Spur' 1990.
Rare album and expensive at Ebay
      Bottom Text:
"...und veröffentlichte 1991 mit "Auf heißer Spur" ein weiteres Album, auf dem u.a. der Bassist Helmut Hattler (KRAAN) zu hören ist."

  • 7. November

    • LilientalIt has been reported - Kraan: 'Psychedelic Man' is now also available at I-tunes.

    • Liliental - Liliental 1976 reissued on CD for the first time.
Dieter Moebius (ARP, guitar, percussion), Asmus Tietchens (Moog, piano), Okko Bekker (ARP, keyboards, percussion, vocals, guitar), Conny Plank (ARP, guitar, vocals), Johannes Pappert (alto sax, drums, bass, flute), Helmut Hattler (bass)
First time ever on legitimately CD from master tapes for this Brain title!
"Electronic music pioneer Dieter Moebius (Cluster, Harmonia) wanted to record an album
polltogether with his musical soul-mates, Okko Bekker and Asmus Tietchens, at Conny Plank’s studio in 1976. In the event, Plank himself even participated in the recordings as a musician. Two other musicians also joined the fold: bassist Helmut Hattler and saxophonist Johannes Pappert (both from Kraan) had just finished working on an album and were happy to stay on at the studio. Suddenly, there were six musicians with six different personalities who had never worked together before. But what could easily have gone wrong turned into a great document of electronic music, which was rather atypical for its time and conveyed a certain lightness, revealing complex structures on closer inspection."

    • Eclipsed-Magazins Instrumental Poll: Kraan's Borgward is on place 51 (but place 4 of the German's Instrumentals - behind Klaus Doldinger, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze). Nam Nam is on the readers poll as nr. 13 (!), that is the 2-best German Group's Instrumental (behind Tangerine Dream).

    • 100 best german albums Die Hundert Besten Deutschen Platten: Von "Made in Germany" ein Musikexpress-Buch (2001)
Another funny list where Kraan takes place nr. 54, and as usual it is 'Kraan live' 75 (kind of trivial choice, there are many other great Kraan albums, but on this list there is only the one). BTW: Boney M and Hellmut Lotti are not on the list.

    • KRAAN - Heimweh nach Übersee (Reprise)
Online again. It has been missing in cyberspace for some time, but Reinhard Mährländer has just given me permission to publish it here.
Large essay in German. Analysis, perspectives, comparisons, even with classical music, and bits of scores, this is perhaps of special interest for the musician - in German.

    • Nice rumour: Peter Wolbrandt’s “So weit” will be released by EMI Germany, sometime in the future. But probably not this year. There’s also talk about coupling it with other re-releases of Alto's first and Hellmut’s “Bassball”-album (which also currently is OOP).
Lets hope EMI and the musicbusiness gets better days in the future.

    • Kraan

In Concert: Kraan Live - Quartier Latin, Berlin 1974, Moderation: Christian Graf.

“People loved the music” max reported, “new KRAAN fans all over the place!”, cool KRAAN!

    • Kraan sameThe 'unknown' organplayer Romi who played on Kraans first album (1972):
Hellmut remembers: "Romi Schickle was an organplayer from ulm, lived in front of my house in an vw-bus quite a while, i supplied him with electricity with a real long cable and he used my bathroom in exchange... when i left ulm (and moved to wintrup with the KRAAN boys), his bus stayed dark and cold – but when he heard that wintrup had lots of rooms, he came passing by and we tried hard to get something together, musically (just around the time when we recorded the first KRAAN album). but we never became real friends, musically. We tried hard in the beginning. Later he found out, electricity is everywhere.. "

Before Kraan Romi played in the band Prof. Wolfff who released one album . But he was also for a period in the band Erna Schmidt: Erna Schmidt - Live '69 - '71 . He seems to own a studio Ulm now www.studio-zwei.de/.

Webmaster read somewhere: "Considering those days - If you can't remember those particular times, then you must have been there."
